Building & Inspections

Appointment ONLY - closed to the general public

When is a Building Permit Required?

Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert, or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the Building Code, or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the Inspection Department and obtain the required permit.

A building permit includes inspections to ensure the work is done properly, which protects the property owner from future liability. The property owner is liable for work done without a permit, as work may not have been done properly. Inspections must be scheduled 24 hours in advance and permits must be issued prior to scheduling inspections.
